Minimally Invasive

Using a fine needle, our vein specialists inject an FDA-approved medication called Asclera™ or polidocanol into the affected vein. This solution irritates the vein and causes it to collapse and be absorbed by the body. This safe and minimally invasive procedure can be performed in our office and is suitable for treating various types of veins.

What Is Sclerotherapy?

Sclerotherapy injects a solution into affected veins to shrink and seal them. Vein Specialist Centers offers different types of sclerotherapy, including liquid sclerotherapy, foam sclerotherapy, and ultrasound-guided sclerotherapy, all of which have been FDA-approved to treat varicose and spider veins. After your sclerotherapy procedure, you can resume your regular activities immediately since there is no downtime required. However, your vein doctor may recommend wearing compression stockings for a certain period to achieve the best results as you heal.

Treatment Options

Liquid Sclerotherapy

Direct liquid injections into the affected veins are the most basic form of sclerotherapy treatment. Best suited for smaller spider veins, the liquid solution causes the veins to shrink and eventually disappear, resulting in smoother, clearer skin with no downtime.

Foam Sclerotherapy

Foam sclerotherapy mixes small amounts of liquid solution with air to create a creamy foam substance that is more effective in treating diseased veins. This treatment is five times more potent than liquid sclerotherapy and is ideal for treating slightly larger veins.

Ultrasound-Guided Sclerotherapy

A highly precise and accurate treatment option for varicose veins that may be difficult to see or for larger superficial veins, this technique requires a higher level of skill and patience on the part of the vein doctor. At Vein Specialist Centers, we have certified technicians and physicians with American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) credentials to perform ultrasound-guided sclerotherapy techniques. ARDMS is the gold standard for excellence in ultrasound, ensuring that our patients receive the highest quality care.
