Cryo-Sclerotherapy with Augmented Reality

Spider Vein Treatment

Sclerotherapy is the gold-standard for spider vein treatment. Common limitations include sensitivity to needle injections, unseen feeder veins, and incomplete treatment.  To address these concerns, Dr Claudia Datta-Rios and the Vein Specialist Centers have adopted innovative techniques to improve success and patient experience using Cryosclerotherapy with Augmented Reality.

SCLEROTHERAPY TREATMENT

To begin, our cryo-sclerotherapy sessions are typically longer than most vein centers, because we believe the extended time allows for better outcomes and better experiences. Treatment sessions are usually under 1 hour in length, or 30 minutes for smaller touch-up sessions.  Our enhanced techniques are based on two foundations:

  • CryoSclerotherapy
  • Augmented Reality

CRYO-SCLEROTHERAPY

Main advantages of cryo-sclerotherapy instead of traditional sclerotherapy rely on the physical effect of cold at treated veins, whereby the skin is cooled and numbed at the injection site.

Cryo-sclerotherapy may be used for the treatment of small varicose veins, reticular veins, and spider veins of the legs.

What Is Cryo-Sclerotherapy?

Cryo-sclerotherapy is a new modified sclerotherapy technique using cold air before and during the injections of sclerosing liquid into unsightly veins. The use of cold air for cooling is not new in cosmetic surgery.

Why Is Cryo-Sclerotherapy Considered Painless?

The whole procedure is done using a cryo unit that produces a continuous flow of cold air to the sites of application of sclerotherapy injections. The result is the cold air anesthetizes the skin so the treatment is relatively painless. This is especially helpful for treatment of spider veins in sensitive areas like the behind the knees and thighs.

What Is Augmented Reality?

Augmented Reality is performed using a Syris polarizing LED light that serves as a special vein magnifying and scanning optical system. With the help of two-way polarization, the vein doctor can see even the veins underneath the skin are not always visible to the naked eye. Augmented reality helps visualize feeder veins that may otherwise cause spider vein treatment failure.

How Does Augmented Reality Improve Success Rates?

The augmented reality images veins up to 1.0 centimeter beneath the skin using patented cross polarized technology. The image is then projected back on to the skin in real time. This enables the physician to see the feeder veins that would not be visible without Syris.

Since our technique targets the “unseen” feeder veins,we believe strongly that the improvements after cryo-sclerotherapy with Augmented Reality will endure over time.

AESTHETIC SUCCESS

The Vein Specialist Centers ensures that every patient has little-to-no discomfort during his or her cryosclerotherapy sessions. The anesthetic effect of cold air from our cryo-unit placed directly at the site of the injection provides a virtually painless and superior therapy experience. Combined with Augmented Reality, our results are far superior to conventional sclerotherapy for feeder veins and spider veins.
