Introduction to Dr. Claudia Rios

Dr. Rios is a pioneer in cryo-sclerotherapy, which quickly turned spider vein treatments into pain-free, minimally invasive, outpatient procedures in 2000.

Dr. Rios-Datta is a member of the American College of Phlebology and a Diplomate of the American Board of Venous and Lymphatic Medicine. She received her medical degree from the Universidad Libre De Cali in Columbia and completed her internal medicine residency at Jacobi Medical Center—Albert Einstein School of Medicine.  She subsequently specialized in vascular medicine to treat spider veins and varicose veins.  She previously worked at the Vein Treatment Center in NYC with world-renowned venous expert, Dr. Luis Navarro.  In 2021, after 10 years at the Vein Treatment Center, she joined as a partner at The Vein Specialist Centers. 

Notable accomplishments include a visit in 2019 with the Hackett Hemwall Patterson Foundation on a vein treatment mission trip to Honduras. In Honduras, she used her skills for treating venous disease to provide critically needed medical care to the underserved. This experience gave Dr. Rios a deep understanding of the negative effects of venous disease impacting the everyday life of patients.  We are incredibly humbled to have Dr. Rios as a physician partner at VSC. 

Besides being an expert in varicose vein treatment, Dr. Rios has an advanced clinic for spider vein treatment utilizing enhanced techniques for sclerotherapy.  Notably, she is an expert in cryo-sclerotherapy.  

What is CryoSclerotherapy?

Sclerotherapy is the gold-standard for spider vein treatment. Common limitations include sensitivity to needle injections, unseen feeder veins, and incomplete treatment.  To address these concerns, Dr Claudia Datta-Rios and the Vein Specialist Centers have adopted innovative techniques to improve success and patient experience using Cryosclerotherapy with Augmented Reality.

Cryo-sclerotherapy is a modified sclerotherapy technique using cold air infusion before and during the injections of sclerosing liquid into unsightly veins. The cold air enhances the effects of local anesthesia for a near painless spider vein treatment.  This is especially helpful for treatment of spider veins in sensitive areas behind the knees and thighs.

What Is Augmented Reality?

Augmented Reality is performed with a polarizing LED light that provides 2.5x vein magnification. Additionally, there is two-way polarization enhancing visualization of feeder veins underneath the skin.
