Dr. Rios, Susan, and the entire staff at Vein Specialist Center have been truly wonderful. I went in several months ago for right leg aches to which I needed an ablation for insufficiency. The office itself is beautiful and clean. The staff kind and very responsive in making appointments and following up. They spent time speaking to you and at no point did I ever feel like they were rushed in seeing patients or eager to get through the appointments which is rare these days. When I had both my procedures they informed me every step along the way and ensured I was comfortable throughout. My aches have completely gone away and I just had the follow up procedure to complete the process which took all of 20 minutes and was painless. Cannot thank Dr. Rios and the team enough!

I initially went to Dr. Claudia Rios about 5/6yrs ago for spider veins treatment. Dr. Rios did an amazing job and my legs looked beautiful for years.. Recently, I noticed some spider veins on my calves, therefore, I reached out to her again. Dr. Rios is approachable, knowledgeable, and has truly mastered her profession. Her office is immaculate and her staff is wonderful. Definitely, a doctor to see if you are experiencing vein issues.

What to Expect From Your Vein Consultation

When you visit our specialists from Lenox Hill, we encourage a thorough dialogue regarding your vascular history and lifestyle goals. We dedicate the necessary time to ensure every detail—from the heaviness felt during a walk to Central Park to specific cosmetic concerns—is addressed with the highest level of clinical attention.

Our approach prioritizes diagnostic accuracy. If medically necessary, Dr. Rios-Datta will perform a detailed venous ultrasound on-site. This essential diagnostic tool allows us to identify the underlying source of your spider and varicose vein symptoms, moving beyond surface-level aesthetics to provide true medical relief.

Before concluding your visit, you will receive a bespoke treatment plan tailored to your unique anatomy. We balance medical necessity with your personal aesthetic preferences, ensuring all recommended procedures are clearly explained and submitted to your insurance provider for seamless approval.

Important Questions a Vein Clinic Should Answer

Finding the right vein clinic is not simple when seeking treatment for spider and varicose veins. Take the time to explore your options and find someone compatible with your care. There are 6 questions we believe every patient should have answered before vein treatment.

How do I verify if a vein specialist is truly qualified?

Board certification is the baseline, but for high-level care, prioritize specialists who are ABVLM Diplomates (American Board of Vascular and Lymphatic Medicine). At our centers, Dr. Claudia Rios-Datta personally performs the diagnostic ultrasound mapping, ensuring your treatment plan is created by the physician, not a technician. This direct oversight is critical for identifying the precise "source valves" that need closure.

Does insurance cover vein treatment as a medical necessity?

Most PPO and major insurance plans cover vein procedures if they are medically necessary. Insurance typically looks for "symptomatic" evidence: leg aching, heaviness, or swelling that interferes with daily life. Our administrative team specialized in NYC/NJ policies handles the pre-authorization process, documenting your "reflux time" via ultrasound to maximize your coverage eligibility.

What is the difference between a cosmetic and a medical vein diagnosis?

A medical diagnosis focuses on Venous Insufficiency-the failure of internal valves causing blood to pool. A cosmetic concern usually involves surface-level spider veins. We use Duplex Ultrasound to determine if your visible veins are a standalone aesthetic issue or a symptom of deeper vascular failure.

Why do my legs feel heavier and more tired at the end of the day?

Leg heaviness is often the first clinical sign of Chronic Venous Insufficiency (CVI). When the valves in your leg veins weaken, they struggle to pump blood back up to the heart against gravity. This causes blood to "pool" in the lower legs-a process called venous reflux.

Can untreated varicose veins lead to more serious health risks?

Yes. Left untreated, chronic venous insufficiency can progress beyond simple discomfort. Over time, the constant pressure can cause stasis dermatitis (skin darkening), spontaneous bleeding, or even venous ulcers (non-healing sores). Early intervention with non-surgical closure techniques stops this progression and protects the long-term health of your skin and circulatory system.

The Vein Specialist Centers are a network of dedicated vein clinics in New Jersey and New York. Our vein specialists are board-certifed experts in spider and varicose vein treatment providing comprehesnive vein care under one roof. Using cutting-edge therapies, we offer our patients minimally-invasive solutions for spider and varicose veins. To schedule your consultation online or call us at (609) 257-2095 to find your nearest clinic.
