Cryo-sclerotherapy is a new modified sclerotherapy technique using cold air before and during the injections of sclerosing liquid into unsightly veins. The use of cold air for cooling is not new in cosmetic surgery.

The whole procedure is done using a cryo unit that produces a continuous flow of cold air to the sites of application of sclerotherapy injections. The result is the cold air anesthetizes the skin so the treatment is relatively painless. This is especially helpful for treatment of spider veins in sensitive areas like the behind the knees and thighs.

1. Ultrasound-guided
Not all varicose veins are visible and some feed directly into the spider veins seen on the surface of the skin. Ultrasound is used to identify the feeder veins for image guided injections. WIth foam sclerotherapy, the medication can be seen on ultrasound interacting with the diseased vein. Physicians must be adept at ultrasound technique to perform this advanced technique for vein removal.

2. Augmented Reality
A Syris polarizing LED light provides vein magnification and a scanning optical system. With the help of two-way polarization, the vein doctor can see even the veins underneath the skin that are not always visible to the naked eye. Augmented reality helps visualize feeder veins that may otherwise cause spider vein treatment failure.
